Yashikiyama Kofun

Yashikiyama Kofun features a circular shape with a surrounding moat, representing traditional architecture from the third to sixth centuries AD.

The burial mound dates from the Kofun period when local clan leaders constructed large tombs to demonstrate their authority and social position.

Terracotta figures called haniwa were placed around the mound to mark sacred spaces according to Japanese funeral traditions of that time.

The site includes informational displays and walking paths that allow visitors to observe the burial mound while maintaining respectful distance.

Archaeological excavations at Yashikiyama Kofun revealed artifacts that provide direct evidence of social hierarchies in early Japanese society.
