富立大橋, Steel girder bridge in Toyama Prefecture, Japan.
The Tomitate Bridge is a steel structure spanning 509 meters across the Joganji River and connecting Toyama with Tateyama. The construction features seven continuous spans and was originally built with two lanes.
Construction began in 2001 and the bridge opened to traffic in 2005, marking a turning point in regional connectivity. The project was a response to growing infrastructure needs between urban and mountain areas.
The bridge links the urban life of Toyama with rural communities in Tateyama, enabling daily exchange between these contrasting areas.
The bridge cuts travel time between Tateyama and Toyama by 12 minutes and is currently being expanded from two to four lanes. Visitors should expect possible delays during construction and adjust driving to temporary conditions.
The bridge was specifically designed to meet the seismic requirements of this region, as Japan frequently experiences earthquakes. This design feature makes it a notable example of modern engineering in challenging conditions.
