水潜寺

Suisen-ji Temple sits within dense forests in the mountainous region of Chichibu and combines traditional Buddhist architecture with meditation spaces. The building uses natural light and features classic wooden construction that blends into the surrounding landscape.

The temple originated from a story where a wandering monk guided villagers to a water source during a severe drought. This legend shaped its founding and gave the place its name and spiritual importance.

The temple houses a Thousand-Armed Kannon statue from the Muromachi period that visitors can see in the main hall. The artworks on display reflect Buddhist craftsmanship and devotional practices that have been maintained at this location for centuries.

The grounds are easy to walk around, although reaching higher areas requires climbing stairs. Arriving in the morning is wise if you want to experience the place more quietly and enjoy better light among the trees.

Visitors can perform the Hyaku Kannon ritual by walking a sandy path to gather spiritual merit. This practice serves as a substitute for the lengthy pilgrimage to 100 Kannon temples.
