Yangyang International Airport, international airport
Yangyang International Airport is a commercial airport in Yangyang County in northeastern South Korea. The facility has a single runway about 2,500 meters long, separate domestic and international terminals, parking areas, and bus connections to other cities.
The airport opened in 2002 and initially served the Gangwon region. After closing from 2008 to 2010, flights resumed and connected the location to destinations such as Busan and Taiwan. The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang led to a surge in charter flights from overseas.
The terminal building is easy to navigate with clear signage in multiple languages, counters for various airlines, and basic amenities. A shuttle bus regularly connects the airport to Yangyang Bus Terminal, and taxis are available around the clock.
The airport once served as a stopover point for visa-free transit for Southeast Asian travelers during the Olympics. VietJet Air regularly operated charter flights from Hanoi to this remote location on South Korea's eastern coast.
