Дом Карева

Karev House is a three-story brick structure in Uralsk distinguished by two prominent roof peaks that rise distinctly above the surrounding cityscape. The facade displays the solid construction of the early 20th century with symmetrical window rows and period architectural details.

Built in 1900 by merchant Alexander Karev, the building remained the tallest structure in the city for decades. Its construction marked an important moment in Uralsk's development as a regional trading center.

The building now serves as home to the Kurmangaliyev Regional Philharmonic Hall and the Moldagaliyev Regional Library, functioning as a center for music and literary events. Both institutions host performances and gatherings that shape the city's cultural life.

The building is accessible during regular opening hours and offers views of the historic interior spaces with original architectural details. It is advisable to check current opening times before visiting, as the space is also used for cultural events.

Local residents call the building 'Nar Uy', meaning camel house, because of its distinctive double roof structure. The resemblance to camel humps is so striking that this nickname has stuck with residents to this day.
