The Ostrovsky Academic Drama Theatre occupies a building constructed in 1940 at the former location of the Pushkin House in central Oral.
The theater started in 1859 under Arkadi Stolypin's leadership, with the inaugural performance of Alexander Ostrovsky's play 'Poverty Is Not a Vice'.
The theater presents both Russian classical plays and contemporary performances, maintaining strong ties to the dramatic traditions of Alexander Ostrovsky's works.
The theater conducts regular performances throughout the season and maintains a resident company of professional actors performing in the Russian language.
During World War II, the theater collaborated with evacuated Belarusian and Karelian-Finnish theater companies, creating a diverse performance program.
