Zabieliai Palace

Zabieliai Palace is a three-story stone building with an asymmetrical layout, dark textured plaster walls, and white architectural details along its facade. The structure features varying window sizes and today functions as a cultural venue with restaurant facilities and guided tour options.

The building was erected in the 17th century for the Zabiela family, making it one of the older structures in Old Town. In 1796, S. Maištavičius acquired the property and undertook extensive reconstruction that shaped its current mixed architectural character.

The palace served as a social gathering place for centuries and displays two elegantly furnished halls on the upper level that visitors can experience today. These rooms reveal through their design and decoration how wealthy families lived and entertained in this setting.

The palace sits at Rotušės Square and is easily reached on foot from the city center. Visitors should take advantage of guided tours to properly understand the architectural details and the different influences from various periods.

The structure displays a rare layering of three building styles: gothic elements in the western foundation, renaissance features in the central section, and classical designs in the east. This unusual stratification resulted from different reconstruction phases and makes it architecturally distinctive.
