Siručiai Palace, Baroque palace in Kaunas County, Lithuania
Siručiai Palace is a Baroque mansion in Kaunas County with a symmetrical facade, elaborate exterior ornamentation, and prominent stone details throughout. The building retains its original architectural character despite its current use as a literature museum.
The building was constructed in 1742 as a residence for a court official and gained importance when poet Jonas Mačiulis purchased it in 1909. Under his ownership, the house transformed from a private manor into a center of literary activity.
The palace now serves as the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum, where you can see manuscripts, books, and personal items from writers on display. This collection shows how the site became important for preserving the nation's literary history.
The building offers guided tours, literature workshops, and regular cultural events for visitors. It is helpful to check ahead for current programming and opening hours to make the most of your visit.
Poet Jonas Mačiulis, known by his pen name Maironis, lived and worked at length in this palace and created some of his major works there. His influence on Lithuanian culture transformed the site into a symbol of the national literary movement.
