Saint Nicholas Church

Saint Nicholas Church is a Gothic church building with asymmetrical design and a single brick tower in the Old Town of Kaunas. The structure features a distinctive masonry dome and interior layout that differs from typical church designs of its era.

Construction of this church began in the 15th century as part of Kaunas' religious development. In 1624, the building was handed to the Benedictine Sisters, marking a shift in its religious management and community role.

The interior features intricate star-shaped and network vaults that demonstrate Gothic craftsmanship and artistic detail from centuries past. These decorative elements shape how visitors experience the space as they move through the church.

In spring 2023, workers discovered long-lost canvas paintings of the 12 apostles hidden in the attic for many years. These artworks by a skilled local painter reveal details about how the church was decorated and valued in earlier times.
