Vestfold og Telemark, County in Eastern Norway
Vestfold og Telemark is a region in Eastern Norway that stretches from the Oslofjord coast to inland mountains and valleys. The area includes many municipalities with a varied landscape of shoreline, forests, and hills.
The region was created in 2020 by combining two separate administrative areas, each with its own long history. This merger brought together two historically distinct territories under one administration.
The region contains numerous Viking-era archaeological sites and medieval churches that visitors can see throughout various settlements. These places shape the character of local towns and show how communities have been organized for centuries.
Skien and Tønsberg serve as the main administrative centers, with different roles in regional management. Visitors will find information about activities and accommodations most readily in these two larger cities.
The coastal towns and rural settlements hold Norway's largest collection of wooden buildings from the 1600s and 1700s that have survived to today. These structures offer a rare window into how people lived here centuries ago.
