Chund Bridge

Chund Bridge, Steel bridge over Chenab River at Chund Bharwana, Pakistan.

Chund Bridge is a steel structure spanning the Chenab River at Chund Bharwana and connecting different regions within Punjab. The construction features concrete and metal beams extending approximately 750 meters across the river.

The bridge was built in 1905 during the British India era and stands as one of the earliest infrastructure projects in Jhang District. This construction was part of broader efforts to modernize regional connectivity.

The bridge carries multiple names across different languages, reflecting the multicultural heritage of the Punjab region and its diverse communities. This linguistic variety appears in the local names and designations that residents use in their daily lives.

The bridge sits about 14 kilometers from Jhang and accommodates pedestrians, automobiles, rail transport, and trucks. Access is via the Jhang-Sargodha road, and the best time to visit is during cooler months.

The bridge employs engineering techniques from the early 20th century, visible in its metal framework and beam fabrication. Despite its age, it has proven reliable for over a century, serving thousands of daily travelers and vehicles.
