Omar Hayat Mahal, Wooden mansion in Chiniot, Pakistan.
The five-story Omar Hayat Mahal features detailed wood carvings throughout its structure, with intricate patterns decorating walls, ceilings, and doorways.
Sheikh Omar Hayat initiated construction of this mansion in 1923 after returning from Calcutta, completing the grand residence in 1935 for 200,000 rupees.
Local artisans Rahim Bakhsh Pirjha and Elahi Bakhsh Pirjha created elaborate wooden decorations using traditional Chinioti woodworking techniques inside the mansion.
The mansion operates as a cultural center with guided tours available, though visitors should note that certain upper floors remain closed due to structural conditions.
Following the death of Sheikh Omar's son Gulzar one day after his wedding in 1937, the family abandoned the mansion, leading to decades of neglect.
