Omar Hayat Mahal

Omar Hayat Mahal is a five-story wooden mansion in Chiniot with intricate carved patterns throughout its walls, ceilings, and doorways. The rooms display traditional woodworking craftsmanship in their detailed decorations.

A prominent resident started building this mansion in 1923 after traveling to larger cities and completed it over a decade later. The elaborate construction showed his connections to modern influences from urban centers.

The woodworking craft of Chiniot artisans fills every room with carved wooden patterns that cover walls, ceilings, and doorways. This work reflects a local tradition passed down through generations and shows the town's pride in its wood-carving heritage.

The mansion now operates as a cultural center offering guided tours, though some upper floors remain closed for safety reasons. Visitors should allow time to examine the carved details closely and move through rooms at a relaxed pace.

After the unexpected death of a family member shortly after his wedding, the family abandoned the residence for many decades. This tragedy led to a period of decay before the building was later revived as a cultural space.
