Chiniot, Administrative city in Punjab, Pakistan
Located on the banks of the Chenab River, Chiniot extends across 2,643 square kilometers in the central region of Punjab province.
The region transformed from a forest during the Indus Valley civilization through various empires until becoming an independent district in 2009.
The population of 1.5 million includes multiple ethnic groups residing in fifteen distinct neighborhoods, each maintaining their own traditions.
The urban section contains numerous educational institutions, including Chenab College, serving a population with a 55 percent literacy rate.
Local artisans produce decorated wooden furniture using timber that traditionally arrived via the Chenab River from Kashmir regions.
