Hiran Minar, Mughal monument in Sheikhupura, Pakistan.
Hiran Minar is an octagonal brick tower in Sheikhupura, Pakistan, standing above a large rectangular water tank. The structure displays geometric patterns in the masonry and features a system of terraces and pavilions surrounding the tank.
The complex was built in the early 17th century under Jahangir as a hunting pavilion and memorial site. Later additions in the same century added the water features and gardens that transformed the site into a royal leisure ground.
Local families and students use the water garden as a weekend retreat, particularly during late autumn and winter months. Visitors often walk along the raised pathways and watch birds gathering around the tank.
The site is located about an hour's drive northwest of Lahore and is best visited during daylight hours. Visitors should bring comfortable shoes for walking around the water tank and remember sun protection during summer months.
The tower features unusual small niches set into the outer wall at regular intervals. These recesses once held lighting during royal hunting celebrations, making the structure visible at night.
