Kraków County, Administrative district in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland

Kraków County comprises 17 municipalities spread across approximately 1,229 square kilometers surrounding the independent city of Kraków in southern Poland. The district is connected by railway and road networks, with John Paul II International Airport providing regional and international transport links.

The administrative boundaries were redrawn in 1999 as part of Poland's nationwide restructuring of regional governance. This reorganization created the modern county structure that exists today.

Religious life remains central to local communities, with churches and monasteries serving as focal points for gatherings and celebrations throughout the municipalities.

The area is well-connected by rail and road, making it accessible by car or public transport to explore the different municipalities. Accommodation and dining options are available throughout the region, though services are more limited in smaller villages compared to larger towns.

The city of Kraków serves as the administrative capital of the region but functions as a completely separate government entity with its own authority. This unusual arrangement means visitors may find the city and surrounding county have different administrative structures despite their close proximity.
