Bukowiec, Bieszczady County, Mountain village in Bieszczady County, Poland
Bukowiec is a mountain village in the Bieszczady range near the Ukrainian border. The settlement sits in the Upper San River valley and spreads across elevated terrain where neighboring communities also cluster.
The village took shape in the late 1400s and was a established settlement by 1580 with farming families and arable land. The church was founded in 1589 and underwent several reconstructions through the early 1900s.
The Greek Catholic church is the focal point of the village and shapes how people gather and connect with one another. Its presence reflects the deep religious roots that have long defined community life here.
You can reach the village by car via the Stuposiany-Muczne-Tarnawa road, and parking is available near the valley trail entrance. Most visitor facilities and starting points are based in the valley area below.
The area holds traces of old sawmills and potash production facilities that once employed many workers. These industrial remnants offer clues to how the local economy functioned in earlier times.
