DAG Fabrik Bromberg, explosive Factory in Bydgoszcz, Poland
DAG Fabrik Bromberg is a former German wartime explosives factory in Bydgoszcz, Poland, now open to visitors as the Exploseum museum. The site consists of heavy concrete production halls, underground tunnels, and storage areas that have been kept largely in their original condition.
The factory was built in 1939 to supply the German war effort with explosives and ammunition, and it operated until 1945. After the war ended, Polish authorities took over the site, which was later turned into a museum.
The site is known today as the Exploseum, a name that refers directly to its past as an explosives factory. Walking through the production halls, visitors can still see the layout of the workstations and get a sense of how the place operated day to day.
The site can be visited with a guided tour or explored independently above ground, though access to the tunnels generally requires a guide. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, as the floors are uneven in places and there are stairs throughout.
The roofs of the production buildings were covered with soil and trees to make the factory invisible from the air, and some of this planting is still visible today. This detail makes the site one of the few places where wartime camouflage can still be seen as part of the landscape.
