Nabi Yahya Mosque, 12th-century mosque in Sebastia, Palestine

The Nabi Yahya Mosque features large buttressed walls, a single dome, and a minaret rising 30 meters above the Palestinian landscape.

The structure began as a Byzantine church, transformed into a Crusader church in 1160, and became a mosque under Saladin's rule in 1187.

The mosque contains multiple tombs, with religious significance for both Muslims and Christians due to its connection to John the Baptist.

Visitors can access the mosque through a staircase leading to the crypt, which contains several sepulchral chambers housing prophet tombs.

The mosque stands at the exact location where, according to local belief, John the Baptist's remains were interred by his disciples.
