Tell Balata, Bronze Age archaeological site in Nablus, West Bank
The remains of Tell Balata extend across a hill between Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal, featuring ancient city walls and fortress temple structures.
Excavations at Tell Balata, initiated by Ernst Sellin in 1913, revealed multiple settlement layers dating from the Third Millennium BC through the Hellenistic period.
The site contains artifacts from ancient Canaanite civilizations, including a quadrangular altar and one of Palestine's earliest discovered coins from 500 BC.
The archaeological park includes interpretive signage along the city wall path and a museum displaying findings from various excavation periods.
Tell Balata lies at an elevation of 524 meters, preserving evidence of a settlement break between the Late Bronze Age and early Iron Age II.
