Great Mosque of Nablus, Religious sanctuary in Old City, Nablus, Palestine.
The Great Mosque of Nablus features a rectangular floor plan with a silver dome and stands at the intersection of main streets in the Old City.
The structure began as a Byzantine church in the 3rd century before its transformation into a mosque during the early Islamic period and subsequent Crusader modifications.
The mosque maintains five daily prayer sessions and serves as a central gathering point for religious celebrations in the Palestinian community of Nablus.
After the 1927 earthquake caused substantial damage to the structure, both the dome and minaret underwent complete restoration work in 1935.
The location holds significance in local narratives as the purported site where Jacob received the coat of his son Joseph from his other children.
