Rashad Shawa Cultural Center, Cultural center in Gaza City, Palestine
The three-story building with a triangular roof includes large halls, a theater, and the Diana Tamari Sabbagh Library serving the community of Gaza.
Completed in 1988 as the first cultural center in Palestine, the building was designed by Syrian architect Saad Mahfel and named after Gaza mayor Rashad Shawa.
The center contains three multipurpose halls used for art exhibitions, conferences, theater productions, and cultural events connecting Palestinians with international communities.
The second floor houses a public library with a reading room that provides resources for researchers and specialists in various academic fields.
The building received a nomination for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1992 for its distinctive design and social contribution.
