Constanța Casino, Art Nouveau casino on the Black Sea waterfront in Constanța, Romania
Constanța Casino is a historic monument and former gaming house in Art Nouveau style on the Black Sea coast in Constanța County, Romania. Curved windows, columns and shell motifs decorate the white facade, which extends across several terraces facing the shore.
Daniel Renard designed the structure starting in 1908, after a wooden pavilion was damaged by storms in 1901. Between 1910 and 1940 the venue enjoyed its golden years as a meeting point for European aristocracy.
During its golden age from 1910 to 1940, the casino served as a gathering place for European nobility and elite society members.
The building has been empty since 2014, and restoration work is planned to recover its condition. The terraces offer open views of the sea and are accessible from the waterfront promenade.
Francis Ford Coppola filmed scenes here in 2007 for his movie Youth Without Youth, based on Mircea Eliade's novel. The terraces and interior served as a backdrop for the story set between the world wars.
