Art museum of Constanta

The Art Museum of Constanța occupies two connected buildings: a neoclassical structure from 1895 and a modern extension constructed between 1980 and 1982. The collection spans three floors and displays Romanian artworks from different artists and periods.

The museum developed from two collections: the Art Collection of Constanța City Hall and the Balcic Collection, gathered between 1935 and 1937. These founding collections formed the foundation for the institution as it exists today.

The building displays works that portray the Dobrogea region and its landscapes, showing how local artists expressed their connection to the Black Sea surroundings. You can observe how regional themes hold a special place in Romanian art traditions.

The building is easy to reach and the spaces are well-marked with signage, so visitors can navigate comfortably. It makes sense to plan at least two hours to explore the exhibition at a relaxed pace.

The museum houses works by artists such as Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu, and Ioan Andreescu, who rank among the most important figures in Romanian art history. These masters continue to shape how visitors understand the country's artistic development.
