Sinegorye, Urban settlement in Yagodninsky District, Russia
Sinegorye sits on the left bank of the Kolyma River in a mountainous area northwest of Magadan's administrative center. The settlement occupies a river valley setting where steep banks and mountain ranges define the local terrain.
The settlement emerged in 1971 as a housing area for workers building the Kolyma Hydroelectric Station. It received urban status the following year as the construction project expanded.
The name means 'region of blue mountains' in Russian, referring to the colored rock formations visible in the surrounding peaks. This geographical character shapes how the settlement relates to its landscape and how locals perceive their surroundings.
The settlement connects to nearby Debin via a 30-kilometer road that links to the Kolyma Highway toward Magadan. Visitors should expect cold climate, mountainous terrain, and limited local services in this remote area.
The settlement once thrived as a hub for hydroelectric development with a much larger resident population. Today it presents a picture of partial abandonment with many buildings no longer in use and a significantly smaller community.
