Klin-Yar

Klin-Yar is an archaeological complex situated in a small valley near the Podkumok River, marked by a distinctive sandstone rock formation called Parovoz. Excavations have uncovered hundreds of graves containing remains from different periods of ancient history.

Systematic excavations began in the 1980s, revealing settlement remains and burial grounds that extend back to the 8th century BC. The discoveries show that multiple peoples occupied this location over more than a thousand years.

The site reveals how different ancient peoples lived side by side and practiced their own burial customs over many centuries. The objects found in the graves show what mattered to these communities and how they organized their daily lives.

The site is located about 3 kilometers east of Kislovodsk and can be reached by regional transport options. Visitors should expect rural terrain and wear suitable shoes for uneven ground.

Genetic analysis of remains discovered here revealed unexpected connections to modern Tibetan populations through shared paternal ancestry. This surprising DNA link points to ancient migration patterns spanning vast distances.
