Mansion of merchant Vassily Emanuilovich Brandt
Mansion of merchant Vassily Emanuilovich Brandt, Merchant mansion at Kuybysheva Street, Saint Petersburg, Russia
The Brandt Mansion is a residence at Kuybysheva Street 4 in Saint Petersburg that once belonged to merchant Vassily Emanuilovich Brandt. Built in 1909 by architect Robert Meltzer, the structure displays neoclassical facades and decorative details typical of the era's refined design standards.
The mansion was built in 1909 when Saint Petersburg was experiencing commercial growth and wealthy merchants were consolidating their influence in the city. Its construction reflects the era when the merchant class gained significant social standing and power.
Today it houses the Museum of Political History of Russia, where visitors encounter exhibits about how society transformed across different eras. The rooms tell the story of the people who lived here and how their world shifted over time.
The building is open to visitors as part of a museum and the entrance is easily found on the street level. It is helpful to check opening hours and available guided tours in advance to make the most of viewing the historical rooms.
Between 1956 and 1957, architect N.N. Nadezhin oversaw extensive restoration work to preserve the building's original architectural elements. This careful renovation proved crucial in keeping the neoclassical details intact and maintaining the structure's character.
