Paramonov’s Mill, Grain mill in Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
Paramonov's Mill is a six-story brick structure that rises along the Don River, featuring large windows and industrial architectural elements from the late 19th century. The building was equipped with grain silos, milling machinery, and storage spaces to process and store large quantities of grain.
The building was originally constructed by merchant Pyotr Posokhov but was acquired by Yelpidifor Paramonov in 1889 and substantially rebuilt following a fire in 1896. This reconstruction made it one of the most modern grain mills in the region.
The building stands as a reminder of when Rostov was a major trading center that processed grain from across the region. Its location on the Don made it possible to store and ship large quantities of grain to markets beyond.
The building sits at the intersection of Beregovaya Street and 7th of February Lane, right along the riverbank where it is easily visible. The location is walkable, but note that the structure is currently abandoned and should be viewed from the outside.
Natural underground springs beneath the building provided it with a natural cooling system that kept it cool in summer and protected it from freezing in winter. This geological feature made the mill one of the few places where grain could be stored under stable conditions.
