Steppe mammoth

The Steppe mammoth at Azov Museum consists of male and female skeletons from prehistoric times that show how large these creatures were. The two specimens stand alongside other Ice Age remains such as woolly rhinoceros and steppe bison bones.

These mammoth specimens lived during the Ice Age in the region around the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. They vanished at the end of that cold period as the climate warmed and changed.
