Monument of Cathopoul, Memorial monument in Taganrog Old Cemetery, Russia
The Monument of Cathopoul features a white marble structure with a crypt topped by an angel figure holding a cross at seven meters height.
Built in 1872, this memorial marks the burial site of Philip Katopul, an Italian merchant of Greek origin who died in Taganrog in 1867.
The monument appears in Anton Chekhov's literary work 'Ionych', connecting it to the legend of an Italian opera singer named Dimetti.
Visitors can locate the monument by its distinctive angel sculpture and four-arched crypt structure within the grounds of Taganrog Old Cemetery.
The crypt entrance contains an iron door with an inscription commemorating Philip Dmitrievich Kotopuli, born December 23, 1814.
