One Raffles Place, Modern skyscraper in Raffles Place, Singapore
One Raffles Place is a pair of towers with the main one soaring 280 meters and containing 63 stories above ground. The complex includes retail spaces spread across six podium levels and houses office, hotel, and commercial facilities within a unified structure.
The building opened in 1986, originally known as Overseas Union Bank Centre, establishing itself as a financial landmark for the city. Its completion represented a major investment milestone with strong occupancy achieved shortly after opening.
Kenzo Tange designed this building to reflect Singapore's emergence as a financial center through its modern glass facade and structural engineering.
The complex connects directly to Raffles Place MRT station through underground passages, making public transit access straightforward. The podium levels contain shops and dining options that are reachable through these underground walkways.
The building's construction required specialized excavation methods due to large boulders beneath the site. Soil removal operations were conducted exclusively at night to minimize disruption to surrounding business activities.
