16 Collyer Quay, Skyscraper in Raffles Place, Singapore
16 Collyer Quay is a glass-clad office tower in the Raffles Place financial district of Singapore, rising to about 179 meters and topped by a spire. It sits right on Collyer Quay, facing the waterfront, and contains office and commercial floors used by financial sector tenants.
The building opened in 1992 as part of a broader push to develop Singapore's waterfront into a financial hub. Before this development, Collyer Quay was a working port wharf where trading vessels called regularly.
The top of the tower carries a navigational beacon that nods to the seafaring past of Collyer Quay, when ships docked here and the port was the heart of the city. This detail is visible from the street and connects the modern building to the identity of the place.
The tower connects directly to Raffles Place MRT station through an underground passage, making it easy to arrive without dealing with the heat. A glass walkway also links it to the nearby Chevron House, so you can move between buildings without going outside.
The ground floor of the building forms part of Change Alley, a raised pedestrian passage connecting Raffles Place to Collyer Quay. The name comes from an old street market that once occupied this stretch and was known for its currency exchange traders.
