Esplanade Bridge, Arch bridge in Downtown Core, Singapore
Esplanade Bridge is a concrete arch structure that spans 261 meters across the Singapore River mouth, connecting the theater district to the financial zone. The bridge is 70 meters wide and carries eight traffic lanes with pedestrian walkways on both sides.
Construction of the concrete bridge started in 1994 and was completed in 1997 to improve access between Marina Centre and Shenton Way. The new crossing was built to handle growing traffic between these two major economic and cultural zones.
The bridge serves as a gathering point where people pause to look at Marina Bay while moving between neighborhoods. Its lighting design has become a familiar landmark that shapes how locals and visitors experience the riverside at night.
The crossing is straightforward by car or on foot, with clearly marked lanes and safe walkways on both sides. It is best visited during less busy times if you want to enjoy views of Marina Bay without heavy traffic.
The structure forms part of the Marina Bay Street Circuit and is completely closed during Formula One Grand Prix race weekends in Singapore. During these events, the racing track runs across the bridge deck, transforming the area into a motorsport venue.
