Malay Village

Malay Village was a museum site spanning one hectare in Geylang, displaying traditional kampong houses that showed how local residential architecture looked before the 1960s. The buildings were arranged to represent the way people lived together in village structures of that earlier time.

The site opened in 1989 after construction began in 1986. It operated until its closure in 2011.

Performances of traditional dances, wedding ceremonies, and theater happened regularly here, bringing local customs to life for visitors. The site also displayed collections of clothing, musical instruments, and everyday tools that reflected the heritage of the community.

The entrance fee was very affordable, and it stayed open from morning until late evening. Visitors could explore the grounds fairly freely, with multiple houses and areas to walk through.

The grounds included specialty restaurants serving regional food and shops selling traditional crafts and herbs. Visitors could eat and shop while experiencing the cultural offerings on site.
