Botanic Gardens MRT station, Mass Rapid Transit station in Singapore
Botanic Gardens MRT is an underground station in Singapore that connects two train lines: the Circle Line and the Downtown Line. The station features two platforms on different levels with four tracks each and is equipped with two main exits, one near the Botanic Gardens entrance and one along Bukit Timah Road.
The station opened in 2011 as part of the Circle Line extension and later received a second line in 2015 with the Downtown Line. During construction, a tragic accident occurred in 2012 when a concrete slab fell on a worker.
The station's Malay name, Kebun Bunga, means flower garden and is one of only two stations with a translated Malay name, emphasizing Singapore's multilingual culture. The artworks inside, such as depictions of the Tembusu tree and local aquatic life, reflect the area's connection to the nearby heritage gardens.
The station provides access through two exits along Cluny Road and Bukit Timah Road, both equipped with stairs, escalators, and lifts for all passengers. Inside you will find ticket machines, restrooms, small shops, and bike racks for additional travel options.
The station was originally planned as Adam Station after the nearby Adam Road but was renamed to Botanic Gardens after a citywide poll to highlight its proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage gardens. The interior features a soothing water feature on the Downtown Line platform that produces gentle sounds to relax waiting passengers.
