Mueang Maha Sarakham, Administrative district in Maha Sarakham province, Thailand
Mueang Maha Sarakham is the central administrative district of Maha Sarakham province in northeastern Thailand, spanning a broad area with fourteen sub-districts and numerous villages. The area consists mostly of flat land with extensive rice paddies and urban zones around the provincial capital.
The district received its current name in 1913 through an administrative reorganization of the region. This change reflected broader adjustments in how northeastern Thailand organized its provincial governance.
This district forms the provincial hub and is home to Mahasarakham University, which draws students from across the region. The campus shapes daily life here and brings intellectual activity to the town center.
The district connects to neighboring provinces through a road network that links to Khon Kaen and Roi Et, making travel straightforward. The flat terrain makes getting around and exploring the area easy.
The area sits at an elevation of around 160 meters and is surrounded by one of northeastern Thailand's major farming regions. Rice paddies shape both the landscape and the local economy in ways visitors notice immediately.
