Kılıç Ali Pasha Mosque, Ottoman mosque in Tophane, Turkey
The Kılıç Ali Pasha Mosque features a central dome spanning 12.7 meters in diameter, supported by granite piers with multiple windows illuminating the prayer hall.
Constructed between 1578 and 1580 by architect Mimar Sinan, the mosque was commissioned by Grand Admiral Kılıç Ali Pasha during Sultan Selim II's reign.
The mosque interior displays traditional Ottoman architectural elements, including Quranic verses on tile panels and a collection of decorative Islamic calligraphy.
Located near the Tophane tram station, the mosque opens daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and welcomes visitors without an entrance fee.
Originally built on an artificial island by the Bosphorus, the mosque now stands inland due to centuries of land reclamation along Istanbul's waterfront.
