Horoztepe

Horoztepe is an archaeological excavation site in Tokat Province that has uncovered multiple burial grounds with ceremonial objects, bronze artifacts, and metal decorations from ancient times. The finds span different periods of early human settlements across Anatolia.

The site dates to the third millennium BC, with major settlements and royal tombs established between 2400 and 2200 BC. This period marks an important stage in early Anatolian civilization development.

The burial grounds show funeral practices through female figurines placed beside skeleton heads, offering insights into the social order of prehistoric Anatolian communities.

The location operates as an active research center where archaeologists continue excavating artifacts and documenting their findings. Visitors may observe current fieldwork methods and the process of archaeological discoveries while on site.

Among the artifacts was one of the earliest known bells in Anatolia along with a rattle from the Old Bronze Age. These rare musical instruments offer insights into the early artistic and cultural expression of these ancient communities.
