Karadeniz Ereğli Museum, Archaeological museum in Karadeniz Ereğli, Turkey.
The Karadeniz Ereğli Museum is housed in a four-story Ottoman mansion built by Karamahmutoğlu Halil Pasha in the 19th century within the Orhanlar neighborhood. The building displays more than 5,400 artifacts spread across multiple levels, with administrative offices on the ground floor and ancient finds on the upper levels.
The building originally served as a women's college before the Ministry of Culture acquired it in 1988 and opened it as a museum in 1998. This transformation preserved the original structure while adapting it to house archaeological and ethnographic collections for public access.
The second floor displays regional ethnographic objects such as traditional Elpek textiles, weapons, ornaments, smoking tools, and handwritten documents from past centuries. These items offer visitors direct insight into the craftsmanship and daily customs of people from this coastal area.
Visitors should allow sufficient time to explore all floors systematically, as the collection is extensive and offers many details to examine. Comfortable shoes are advisable, especially if you also plan to view the outdoor area with historical elements.
The third floor features a recreated traditional Ereğli residence that shows how families lived and arranged their homes in earlier times. This space gives visitors a direct visual understanding of domestic life from previous generations.
