Ara Güler Museum, Photography museum in Bomontiada, Şişli, Turkey
The Ara Güler Museum is a photography museum in Bomontiada housing black and white images from the second half of the 20th century. The collection focuses on Istanbul and documents social situations, street scenes, and architectural details from that period.
The museum was founded in 2018 as a result of a partnership between Doğuş Group and renowned photographer Ara Güler, who worked in Istanbul for decades. This collaboration made it possible to preserve and publicly present his complete photographic work.
The museum displays photographs that document everyday life in Istanbul across decades, showing how the city and its people changed over time. Visitors can find in these images the stories of craftspeople, street vendors, and ordinary residents.
The museum is located in Birahane Sokak and welcomes visitors Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free and you can move through the exhibition at your own pace.
The museum's archive contains hundreds of thousands of digitized images, with only a small portion displayed in the galleries. This extensive digital collection allows visitors to dive deeper into the photographer's work and discover lesser-known series.
