Church of St Mary & All Saints, Medieval church in Broomfield, England.
The Church of St Mary and All Saints is a medieval parish church in Broomfield with a three-stage tower built in 1440. The building was expanded at different times, especially on its north side, and holds a 15th-century octagonal font and a carved wooden chest from the 16th century.
The church began as a medieval building and received its distinctive tower in 1440. Later, between the 15th and 16th centuries, it was altered and enlarged several times, eventually earning Grade I listed status for its architectural importance.
A stained glass window inside shows the skilled work of William Morris, the Victorian designer and craftsman. His company's artistic approach shaped the appearance of this sacred space.
Access is available when the building is open to visitors, and it is worth taking time to look at the interior details. The features are well-preserved and easy to explore, even if you have no background knowledge of medieval architecture.
Inside the church sits laboratory equipment from scientist Andrew Crosse, a 19th-century pioneer of electrical experiments. An obelisk in the churchyard stands as a reminder of his groundbreaking work in the area.
