Bramall Lane, Football stadium in Sheffield, England
Bramall Lane is a football ground in Sheffield, England, with a capacity of 32,702 seats distributed across several stands. The venue includes the main Bramall Lane Stand along one side and the Kop opposite, both arranged in traditional football ground style.
The ground opened in 1855 as a cricket venue and hosted the very first international cricket match in 1862. Football arrived in 1862 when Sheffield FC played Hallam FC here, and in 1878 the world's first floodlit football match took place on this pitch.
Sheffield United has played here since 1889, with supporters calling themselves the Blades, a nickname that reflects the city's steelmaking past. Match days bring fans streaming through the surrounding streets, creating a distinctly local matchday atmosphere rooted in working-class tradition.
Conference rooms and hospitality areas are available on match days and for events, while a club shop sells team merchandise. Tram stops and bus lines nearby connect the ground to Sheffield city center within minutes.
The ground is one of only two venues worldwide to have staged an England football international, a Test cricket match, and an FA Cup Final. A plaque on the outer wall still marks the site's cricket heritage today.
