Kurkh Monoliths, Assyrian limestone monoliths at British Museum, United Kingdom

The Kurkh Monoliths consist of two limestone stelae measuring 221 centimeters in height and 87 centimeters in width, featuring Akkadian cuneiform inscriptions.

John George Taylor discovered these Assyrian monuments in 1861 at Üçtepe Höyük, Turkey, and donated them to the British Museum in 1863.

The inscriptions detail military campaigns and political events during the reigns of Assyrian kings Ashurnasirpal II and Shalmaneser III around 879 BC.

Visitors can examine these ancient artifacts in the British Museum's permanent collection, where specialists continue to study their historical significance.

The monoliths contain one of the few mentions of Israel in Assyrian records, specifically referencing the Battle of Qarqar and King Ahab.
