Vampire, Steel roller coaster in Chessington World of Adventures, United Kingdom
Vampire is a steel roller coaster at Chessington World of Adventures, United Kingdom, that travels through wooded sections of the park and uses suspended seating. The track runs for roughly 715 metres, climbs to around 17 metres, and travels at about 74 kilometres per hour (46 miles per hour).
The ride opened in April 1990 as part of the Transylvania themed area and was built by Arrow Dynamics. In 2001 it received new trains and changes to the track layout to improve operation.
The name refers to the legend of Dracula, and the design picks up this theme with dark architecture and musical accompaniment. Visitors pass through an old manor house, its interior resembling an abandoned crypt and creating a theatrical atmosphere.
The ride operates with three trains that each carry 24 people and dispatch fairly quickly one after another. Those who want to travel under the trees should choose dry weather, as the track often does not run when wet.
This installation is the only suspended coaster by Arrow Dynamics still running outside North America. The combination of forest and suspended seats was rare to find in Europe at the time of opening.
