The site extends across 5.98 square kilometers of coastline, featuring vertical sea cliffs formed from the Land's End granite mass along the Penwith peninsula.
The area received its initial designation in 1967, with current boundaries established in 1995 to protect its significant geological and biological features.
The South West Coast Path traverses through this natural site, connecting the Somerset coastline to Dorset through centuries-old walking routes.
Visitors can access designated walking paths while respecting restricted areas that protect sensitive ecological zones and rare plant species.
The site contains eight separate Geological Conservation Review locations and supports multiple Red Data Book plant species in its maritime grasslands.
