Yarrow Reservoir, lake in the United Kingdom
Yarrow Reservoir is a water storage site in Rivington built in the 1850s to supply Liverpool with fresh water. Three large embankments hold the water back and create wide open spaces, with overflow cascading down into Anglezarke lake nearby.
Built in the 1850s as part of Liverpool's water supply system, the reservoir changed the natural flow of the River Yarrow. What once ran directly toward Chorley is now held back, though a small overflow from Upper Rivington restarts the river's journey today.
Parking is available near Anglezarke Reservoir, with a walking track leading away from the main road to reach Yarrow. The paths around the site are well-kept and easy to walk, but remember to take your rubbish with you as bins are only found at busier spots.
A dog head sculpture has been placed along the walking paths near a wall beside the reservoir, a small detail many visitors overlook. This unexpected artistic addition provides a moment of surprise during the walk.
