Sheffield Round Walk, Walking circuit in Sheffield, England
The Sheffield Round Walk is a walking trail that winds through parks, woodlands, and valleys connecting the city with the countryside beyond. The route divides into four sections of roughly 3 to 4 miles each, marked with acorn signs that guide you throughout.
The trail was developed with support from the J G Graves Charitable Trust, which made it possible to create this walking network. The project emerged from a desire to connect urban and rural areas through an accessible path.
The trail passes by Beauchief Abbey and Shepherd Wheel, where you can see traces of Sheffield's industrial past woven into the landscape. These sites show how production shaped the region and its daily rhythms for centuries.
The full route takes about 6 to 7 hours if you complete all four sections in one day, but you can also walk individual sections on different days. The path is walkable year-round, though wetter months can leave muddy patches in some areas.
Graves Park sits directly along the route and holds three lakes, several streams, and a working farm with rare livestock breeds. This nature reserve with its water features and animals offers a quiet contrast to the surrounding city.
