The Sentinels, High-rise residential towers in Lee Bank, Birmingham, England
The Sentinels are two residential towers standing approximately 90 meters tall with 31 floors each in central Birmingham. Each building houses around 244 apartments and contributes to the city's modern skyline with their distinctive profile.
The towers were built between 1967 and 1971 as part of Birmingham's post-war housing expansion program. They took inspiration from Chicago's Marina City, a pioneering residential development of that era.
The towers have drawn a diverse residential community since opening and became a social hub for various groups in the city. They remain a visible landmark that shapes how the neighborhood is perceived today.
The buildings have undergone extensive renovations with updated windows, modernized lifts, and improved security systems. Visitors can view the towers from outside, as these are private residential buildings.
The two towers held the title of Birmingham's tallest residential buildings until Bank Tower 2 was completed in 2019. This long prominence made them an unforgettable landmark for generations of residents.
