Alexandra Theatre, Theatre on Station Street, Birmingham, England.
The Alexandra Theatre is a theatre building on Station Street in Birmingham, situated close to Birmingham New Street Station. Inside, the auditorium rises across several levels, with seating areas finished in royal blue that gives the hall a consistent and recognizable look.
The theatre was designed by architect William Coutts and opened on May 27, 1901 under the name Lyceum. It was soon renamed the Alexandra Theatre, and the building has remained a working stage in the city ever since.
The Alexandra Theatre is known for bringing West End touring productions to Birmingham, making it one of the main stages for that kind of show outside London. A night here tends to draw a mixed crowd from across the region, giving the place a lively energy on performance evenings.
The theatre sits a short walk from Birmingham New Street Station, so arriving by train is straightforward. A Piano Bar inside the building is open before performances if you want to have a drink before taking your seat.
Leon Salberg, a former owner of the theatre, died in his office inside the building in 1938. Staff members have since reported unexplained events in parts of the theatre, which some attribute to his continued presence.
