Tyrrau Mawr, Mountain summit in Snowdonia National Park, Wales.
Tyrrau Mawr is a mountain summit in Snowdonia reaching around 660 meters high with a dramatic northern cliff face called Craig-las. This rock formation towers above Llyn Cregennen lake below and shapes the peak's distinctive appearance.
The summit shows traces of early human activity through an ancient stone formation called Carnedd Lwyd. This rock pile indicates people have roamed these Welsh mountains for a very long time.
The mountain carries a Welsh name rooted in local language traditions of the region. Visitors experience how these peaks remain woven into the daily life and identity of the surrounding communities.
The climb starts at the Pony Path near Rhiw Gwredydd and follows marked trails throughout. The route is well established and generally easy to follow, making the ascent accessible to most visitors.
On clear days the Craig-las cliff reflects on the water surface of the lake below. This mirrored image is only visible from certain vantage points on the mountain.
