Devil's Staircase, Mountain trail in Glen Coe, Scotland
The Devil's Staircase path rises through steep zigzags between Altnafeadh and Kinlochleven, crossing rocky terrain and grassy slopes along the West Highland Way.
General Wade's soldiers named this section during their 18th-century road construction program, which established military routes through the Scottish Highlands.
Workers from Blackwater Dam created a tradition of walking this path to reach the nearest pub, leading to challenging return journeys that reinforced its formidable name.
The 9-kilometer trail requires approximately 3 hours to complete, with parking facilities available along the A82 road at Altnafeadh.
From the summit, hikers observe Rannoch Moor, Blackwater Reservoir, and multiple mountain ranges while following stepping stones across highland burns.
